My Summer 2015 Makeup Essentials

My Summer 2015 Makeup Essentials

If you are one of those people that doesn’t alter that beauty routine for the summer months, then you’re either a) doing it wrong or b) graced with a flawless complexion that allows you to go relatively bare-faced at all times. If you fall into the category of the former, then it’s time to take notes because Lord knows I could never get away with my winter beauty regimen throughout June-August.

My summertime beauty routine goes as such: Smashbox primer, NARS concealer in custard (although, admittedly, it’s not dark enough for my skin tone during these months), Tarte blush in “bluff,” Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector, curl lashes with eyelash curler, and then apply Maybelline mascara.

Here’s a more in-depth analysis:

First thing’s first, you need BECCA in your life. It’s the beauty treasure I never knew I was missing until my most recent trip to Sephora. I told one of the Sephora gals that I’m unhappy with my rather matte-looking face lately and said I was on the prowl for some kind of illuminator. Cue Becca. Seriously guys, it’s not just any old bronzer/illuminating powder. This is like, Becca’s shit. THIS IS WHAT THEY DO. ILLUMINATE! And I can’t even tell you how many compliments I’ve gotten since I started using Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector in the color Champagne Pop. Everyone is all, “Wow, how did you do that to your face? It totally looks profesh.” This, ladies (and gentlemen) is my secret weapon.

Second thing is Laura Mercier primer. This foundation primer in Radiance Bronze is not a part of my everyday routine as it’s like really, really, REALLY hot in New York and this stuff would just melt right off my face. But it really is great. For times when I don’t want my makeup to be too heavy but am not confident enough in my skin to go out with nothing but concealer, Laura Mercier’s foundation really does the trick. It gives your face a believable, bronzed glow and you don’t need to cake anything else on top of it.

Smashbox’s Photo Finish More Than Primer (Blemish Control) is my new favorite primer. It’s light, which is exactly what New Yorkers need right about now. (Yes, we’re dealing with a disgusting, soul-sucking level of humidity right now; we — collectively — don’t want to talk about it.) Long story short, this does the trick. Smashbox + concealer = out the door.

I am not a bronzer person. Have you seen my skin? I’m Sicilian and Polish and I tan like a burger on a grill. (Is that a good analogy? Is that even a remotely accurate analogy?) But, as you’ve probably noticed is a common theme with my makeup choices, I am loyal to any Tarte product. I really like using the Park Ave Princess bronzer (courtesy of my July Ipsy bag) on the bridge of my nose and on my temples to add a barely-there shimmery, contoured effect.

Lastly, Maybelline is always a great go-to mascara. Lately I have been using the Mega Plush Volum’ Express in place of my usual mascaras (Tarte or Better Than Sex). This Maybelline mascara is way lighter than the ones I usually use. Not only does it refrain from clumping, but it leaves you with natural-looking lashes. That’s extremely important when you’re dealing with 91 degrees PLUS 87% humidity. Ya’ll don’t want to look like you’ve been crying, do you? Didn’t think so.

I’d love to know: What are your go-to summer makeup essentials? Let me know in the comments!
